In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We chose our stock narratives, characters and settings carefully so that the audiences watching our film can identify that it is a thriller. Working in our group, we carried out research in watching 3 different Thriller films which were The Bourne Ultimatum, The Collateral and The Godfather. Our group put all of the research in to a repertoire of elements table. The themes of Thriller is a story of an assassin who works for a CIA who is asked to carry out s series of task’s of assassination, kidnap or simply destroying another secret organisation. Our group have chosen to use a similar sort of story when an assassin try’s to get out of his job to keep his family safe, from our research we also have used an assassin in our Thriller. Our group filmed the Thriller in a posh hotel were the assassination takes place, and the meeting between the assassin and the boss takes place in a dark office room. The audience will see from watching the clip we know that it is a thriller by seeing the assassin wearing a black long coat, dark shirt and pulling out a gun to complete the assassination. I feel that we chose our characters, settings and themes very well according to our research.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
If i was selling this film i would have someone like Michael Mann who produced Collateral or Martin Scorsses who produced Gangs of New York. Being a big budget film i feel that these producers would fit the part well because these producers have produced some big films with big actors (stars) such as Tom Cruise and Leonardo Dicaprio with these stars there would attract huge audiences world-wide. i would like to make this a british film though with british actors and some american actors, actors like Cristian Bale and Daniel Craig would be considered for the part of the assassin.
Who would be the audience for your media product
As our film is a Thriller the film would be released as a 15 so people 15 and older can watch this film. our group decided on a 15 rating as our film contains scenes of violence, this would not be suitable for the 15 and younger. we discussed this in our presentation of what rating we should use.
How did you attract/address your audience
Once the 20th century logo has faded out a deep tense bass music comes into the scene and we see a person walking down a corridor and whilst this is happening there is a cut back to what the audience see is a flashback of a tense conversation, from watching this the audiences want to know where the person is going and why and what the conversation is about.
What have you learnt about technologies from constructing this product?
Whilst filming i was acting but we had problems setting up the camera for recording or playback, before i did not know how to use a camera very well but throughout our filming i have learnt how to use a camera and how to set it up. Whilst we were editing i had also learnt a lot of how to use the Mac computer, by adding music to the clip or cutting a bit out of the scene. I found garage band very hard to use, our group would have liked to create our own piece of music but we found ourselves playing with it but not coming up with anything and wasting time, so in the end we found a piece of music which fitted our scene we found this piece of music copy free-right for one of our group members dad who also works in the media.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I have learnt from doing my final piece that planning is key. When our group did the preliminary task i feel that our group went into film in it not knowing what shots we were using and were we were going to film it, but we planned setting, theme’s and characters for out final piece and i believe this helped us but we did not film enough which means we did not fully plan our final piece we were asked to make a 2 minute opening instead we filmed a 1:40 minutes. we concentrated on more on the camera shots than worrying about how long it was going to be . Working with each other is also key, sticking together, and listening to each other ideas is important as you will get along with each other and i believe we did not listen to each other as much in the preliminary task.
